# Story Settings

## What are Story Settings?

In the [Story Editor](/authoring-docs/authoring-editor/content-editor.md), you can navigate to Story Settings in the left-side menu to adjust the General Settings, and the Limits & Certificates.

## How to use General Settings in the Story Editor

In General Settings you can enable or disable story features, limits, and certificates.

### Scoring/Grading Mode

**In Scoring / Grading Mode you can choose how questions need to be completed.**

* **Evaluate Grading Mode.** If set to Evaluate, then users can submit incorrect answers/activities.
* **Teach Grading Mode.** If set to Teach, then users must repeat answers/activities until correct.
* **Survey Grading Mode.** If set to Survey, then there is no correct answer - all answers are accepted.

### Sequence

**Use the Sequence story setting to determine the order in which users must complete a story.**

* **Linear sequence.** If set to Linear, then users must complete the chapters/sections sequentially.
* **Open sequence.** If set to Open, then users can complete the chapters/sections in any order.

### Allow Activity Skipping

* **Activity Skipping On.** If enabled, users can skip activities.
* **Activity Skipping Off.** If not enabled, users must complete activities.

### Enable Reviews

* **Reviews On.** If enabled, comments and reviews may be submitted.
* **Reviews Off.** If not enabled, comments and reviews may not be submitted.

### Allow Multiple Attempts

* **On (Default).** If enabled, users can attempt multiple times.
* **Off.** If not enabled, users may only make a single attempt.

{% hint style="info" %}
If Allow Multiple Attempts is not enabled, then users won't be able to re-do an activity more than once. This setting is ideal for formal assessments. If necessary, you can reset a user's attempt via the logs in analytics.
{% endhint %}

### Publish to Pathway Only (Experimental)

* **Publish to Pathway Only On.** If enabled, then the story is only available in pathways.
* **Publish to Pathway Only Off.** If not enabled, then the story is published to the app and available in pathways.
